Everything Mixes

Everything - Remix Album, featuring Robert Owens and Rober V on the original track. This release, on Musical Directions, sticks to their ethos of fostering fresh sounds and showcasing new talent. The track Everything was born from a collaboration competition with Beatport & VoiceSwapAI, in which Rober V was the winner. The challenge involved production of an original track and utilization of the AI platforms features, in this case AI generation of Robert Owens signature voice. The winning project was then picked up by Owens and he recorded live vocals in the studio, finalising the finishing touches. Featuring remixes straight from Musical Directions impressive roster.

Ping Pong : Remixes

Musical Directions returns with a fresh batch of remixes from a diverse lineup of talented producers. Taken from the Naked Part One album project, “Ping Pong” is the focus of this first of two remix packages from the upcoming four-part series.
Driven by irresistibly groovy synth rhythms, “Ping Pong” is built for the dancefloor, radiating pure energy and movement. Chicago-based Andrew Emil joins forces with Alex Zelenka on this remix EP, delivering two standout versions: the hypnotic “Dreaming Long Version” and its stripped-back counterpart, “Dreamstrumental Long Version.” Both remixes reimagine the original track with a lush, percussive foundation and a flowing, almost meditative style—perfect for late-night sets or immersive listening.

Musical Directions Rejuvenation

Our founder hit the ground running shortly after touching down in Germany's capital in 2015. Beginning with the concept of the Naked album series, Robert began reaching out to various artists within the Berlin circuit, each with a variety of musical styles. The four part Naked series stands as a testament to Musical Directions mission of showcasing both seasoned and emerging artistic talent to the world. In line with this, artists from different genres, from house to techno, continue to be selected ultimately breaking down the genre divides, utilizing glorious sounds from all areas of electronic music.
Ordinary People (Promo Two) – A Deep House Milestone
August 26, 1996
In 1996, Robert Owens released Ordinary People (Promo Two), a limited 12-inch vinyl on the UK label Musical Directions. This sought-after promotional record exemplified Owens’ enduring impact on deep and garage house music during the mid-90s, a period when his soulful voice continued to resonate in underground clubs across Europe and the US.
The release featured four distinct remixes: Tik Tax's “Classic Wax Mix”, Booker T’s dub interpretation, a lush vocal rework by Fire Island, and Owens’ own stripped-back “Stripped To The Soul Mix”. Each version showcased different textures of house music, from emotionally-charged vocal journeys to rhythm-driven dub explorations. These tracks reinforced Owens' reputation not just as a vocalist, but also as a curator of sonic atmosphere and mood.
Though distributed as a promotional-only pressing, Ordinary People (Promo Two) remains a cult favourite among vinyl collectors and house connoisseurs. Its understated release belied its influence, marking another chapter in Owens’ legacy of crafting timeless, soul-infused dance music that continues to inspire generations.
Birth of the Musical Directions Logo
June 6, 1992
The logo was commissioned by Japanese fashion designer Kohshin Satoh. Satoh has created clothing for numerous high profile artists like Michael Jackson, Madonna and Miles Davis with a successful career spanning decades, a true figure in the fashion world. On top of this Kohshin Satoh redesigned clubs, notably the Michael Todd room inside New Yorks renowned Palladium club. Robert met Kohshin met during his eleven date tour in Japan during the 80s, the pair instantly hit it off bonding over their love of artistic fashion.

Freetown Inc

Before the birth of Musical Directions, Robert worked in artist liaison and cultivation with Freetown Inc in London. Honourable accolades include:
-Sharing expertise through mentoring a variety of musicians in writing and producing vocals, notably writing tracks for the internationally renowned David Guetta.
-Arranging showcases featuring a choir and an eleven piece band.
-Organizing lock-in sessions with handpicked artists and sound engineers, passionately creating for up to 16 hours straight; during these sessions, on-project training was given to artists honing their craft, including song writing guidance.
Robert Owens Involvement in the Fashion Industry

No stranger to elegant eye-catching styles, Robert has lengthy expertise with all things fashion. He has walked the catwalk in Chicago and modelled in both Japan & at New York Fashion Week for Kohshin Satohs runway exhibitions. On top of that, he has been publicized in various magazines with numerous designers over the years, with a shining moment in Italian Vogue. It is this exact artistic experience poured into crafting each piece of Musical Directions merchandise.
